Correct me if I am wrong, but when you tell people that you want to be an artist they automatically think of you as a painter. No one ever thinks that art is truly something bigger that just paint to paper. Our world is FILLED with art and no one ever thinks about it. I can tell you what the definition of art is according to a few different sources, but I feel that each website and dictionary has a little something missing from it, so I would rather share with you a quote from a guy who seemed to explain art pretty accurately.
"Art happens when anyone in the world takes any kind of material and fashions it into a deliberate statement." -Thomas Hoving
The first time I read that statement, it hit me like a ton of bricks. His statement means that anyone with an idea can be an artist.
You don't have to go to a fancy school to do art. You don't have to compare your work to the next person. You don't have to follow the "norm" in art.
So, here is food for thought: Stop carry about what other people think art is. Do what you enjoy and try your best to express what you feel and what you imagine. If you want to show others your crazy amazing imagination, then do it.
I have been blown away and have seen some crazy work that I could NEVER be able to make. My mind doesn't work that way, but that person's brain doesn't work the way mine does.
My imagination is not yours and if you are not going to share your art with me and the rest of the world there will never be anyone who will.
My challenge to you today is to just make SOMETHING. Pick up your choice of medium and create.
